Your First Ride

The Saturday FOG ride leaves at 0900 sharp. Please arrive early enough to sign in (required for insurance purposes) and to be prepared to ride at 0900.

The legion opens at 0730 if you need to use the washroom facilities. Please remember to remove all headwear, including helmets.

We proceed as a large more socially oriented ride at a slow pace (30 kph) to the first stop (Lockport on our typical route) where we divide into 1, 2 or 3 groups depending on numbers and ability. If you are not completely sure of where you fit in we suggest you start with one of the slower groups as we are NOT a no-drop ride. Read more about our groups here.

Most of the time, the majority of riders will ride either the Birds Hill Park route (~100 km) or the Cooks Creek route (~110 km), but there will almost always be riders choosing the shorter Big Bridge loop (~75 km) and occasionally the even shorter Lockport loop. Our Saturday routes are structured in such a way that they are all an extension of one another so one can decide mid-ride whether to go shorter or longer. More information about our routes can be found here.

Depending on how far you plan to ride we suggest you bring 2-3 bidons and some a gels. There are no opportunities to refill bidons until Birds Hill Park. Flat tires are inevitable. You should have the  tools and spare inner tubes to be able to fix a flat.

All riders must wear an approved helmet.

Always check the blog the morning of the ride for any updates. If there is a need for a weather update it will usually be posted 0730.
