MISSISSIPPI RIVER TRAIL
by Doug Tiel
Hi all, the last two summers I have tried my hand at bike touring. I have cycled what I would call legs of the MRT (Mississippi River Trail). The route starts at Itasca state park in Minnesota and ends at the Gulf of Mexico at Venice Louisianna where the river dumps into the gulf. The first summer (2014) I rode from home to Hastings, Minnesota and 2015 from Hastings to St Louis, Mo. The route is mostly on county roads and some bike paths. I would like to complete the whole route one day as the experience has been great. Riding through small American towns, great sites, people you meet and the day to day experience of putting on a lot of kms has been great. I have attached 2 links where I have journals on both trips. A daily write up with kms traveled and some pictures.
